Realizing the Dream, Inc., with headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making Dr. King's dream a reality by helping make the American dream possible for all. Realizing the Dream seeks to continue the legacy and work of Dr. and Mrs. King in wiping out poverty and injustice through programs that foster peace and nonviolent social change, empowering poverty-stricken communities and developing strong leaders among the nation's youth. Diahann appeared Oct. 22, 2006 at the Thurgood Marshall Annual Fundraiser at the Sheraton Towers Hotel in New York City. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences hosted a Boomer TV fan's dream lineup Oct. 12, 2006 when it celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in Hollywood. The celebration consisted of classic and contemporary clips, along with commentary from some of the show's stars. Actors who appeared included: Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time); Barbara Billingsley (Leave it to Beaver); Steven Bochco (NYPD Blue); Diahann Carroll (Julia); Angela Cartwright (Lost in Space); Mike Connors (Mannix); Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men); Dick Van Dyke (The Dick Van Dyke Show); Jamie Farr (MASH); Dennis Franz (NYPD Blue); Estelle Harris (Seinfeld); Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch); Penny Johnson Jerald (24); and William Shatner (Boston Legal, Star Trek). Diahann was a guest on Oprah on Oct. 5 as part of the show show "Great Women Getting Older", along with other featured guests Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard and Nora Ephron. Diahann to headline benefit - Diahann Carroll -- a Tony and Golden Globe winner; Emmy, Grammy and Best Actress Oscar nominee, first black actress to star in her own series, "Julia" (NBC, 1968) and breast cancer survivor -- spoke at the Mothers, Daughters, Sisters & Friends Luncheon on Oct. 5 at the Shenandoah Golf, Banquet & Country Club, 5600 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield, Michigan. It was a benefit for the planned Francee & Benson Ford Jr. Breast Care & Wellness Center at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. Diahann was a guest on Good Day L.A. on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006. Good Day L.A. airs at 7:00 AM on Fox Channel 11 in the LA area. Diahann taped a segment for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT on Aug. 4, which aired on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006. Diahann Carroll and Richard Roundtree will appear in recurring roles as the parents of Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) on ABC's drama GREY'S ANATOMY. Diahann's first episode will air on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006. On a side note, both Diahann and Richard Roundtree serve as spokespeople for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. "Black Style Now," an eclectic and generation-spanning exhibition, is pulling hip-hoppers and all sorts of folks into the Museum of New York. It is proclaimed as the first major American exhibition to explore African American style - from before "black is beautiful" to the rise of the hip-hop fashions that gate-crashed Seventh Avenue and became a worldwide phenomenon, and one of the many fashion artifacts are photos of Diahann from the play No Strings. The exhibition runs through Feb. 17, 2007.
Diahann made her long awaited New York debut at Feinstein’s nightclub on
April 18, 2006 for a two-week
engagement, selling-out as soon as reservations were being taken.
The tickets sold so quickly that
the producers immediately went into negotiations to stage Diahann in her own
one-woman Broadway show, scheduled for 2007. The Feinstein’s engagement
kicks off a national tour around the country with dates forthcoming shortly.
The show, staged by award winning Larry Grossman with six Emmy wins and two
Tony nominations, and written by Stuart Ross, draws from her personal and
professional life with songs including the works of Peter Allen, Alan &
Marilyn Bergman, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and other greats.

On June 21, Diahann was the guest for the SAG Foundation's "Conversations". Paul Ryan hosted and was the moderator for this conversation with Golden Globe and Tony winner and Oscar nominated Diahann. Diahann's hosted an episode entitled "Greats, Dates and Debates" as part of the 5 part special THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT for TV Land which aired on Feb. 1, 2006. Other hosts included Wayne Brady and Harry Belafonte.
